Carlito Turns Heel

Carlito has turned heel and split up from his little brother. A big push could be waiting for him while a pink slip could be awaiting Primo Colon.

Carlito Turns Heel

Wrestlemania 25 is always going to be an event that the Colon family remembers. That was the day when Carlito & Primo Colon became the very first ever WWE Unified Tag Team Champions.

Carlos Colon, a legendary wrestler and promoter, evcen flew into Houston, Texas to see his sons working the show. As much as he's accomplished in his own career, he must have been extremely proud to see his sons on the biggest stage of them all.

He couldn't have been more disappointed, though, to see the events that unfolded on Raw this week.

After failing to recapture the WWE Unified Tag Team Championship from Edge & Chris Jericho, Carlito's frustration finally reached a boiling point. He attacked his little brother and effectively turned heel again.

That's right. Carlito is back to being in his proper role as a singles heel.

What This Means For Primo?

Primo Colon made his WWE debut approximately 11 months ago. Unfortunately, though, the split with his brother could signal the end of his tenure with the company.

It is widely believed that Primo Colon was basically called up to the main roster for two reasons.

For one, the company wanted to bring him up because Vince McMahon had put a premium on second generation wrestlers. Primo Colon already had an advantage over the other developmental wrestlers because of his last name.

The other reason why the company promoted Primo Colon was because they wanted to keep Carlito in the company. He had threatened to leave WWE, but the company convinced him to stick around because of his little brother.

Carlito & Primo Colon weren't very successful as a tag team despite being given four title belts by the company to wear. They never did manage to capture the audience's attention and admiration.

Primo Colon did nothing during the past 11 months to make him stand out above the rest. In the limited time that he was allowed to speak, he clearly did not possess the natural charisma that his brother has.

The company will probably try to utilize him as a singles wrestler for a bit, but they'll quickly release him once they realize that he's not going to be able to make it on his own.

What This Means For Carlito?

On the flip side, though, this split could end up being a very good thing for Carlito's career. He could be in line for a major push from WWE that he had been seeking prior to the days of him demanding a release.

About 5 years ago, Carlito made his debut on Smackdown. It was a debut that has to rank as one of the best one in the history of the company. He was given a nice push right off the bat by winning the United States Heavyweight Championship on his very first night.

Carlito then quickly won over the audience with his natural charisma and unique character. Many had started predicting that Carlito was guaranteed a spot as a future main event heel.

However, that push never came. For some reason or another, the company refused to throw him into the main event scene.

With the WWE main event scene looking pretty thin with the absence of several superstars (Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, Batista, and Edge), now is as good of a time as any for WWE to promote Carlito into that spot.

Carlito will either get his main event push now, or he's going to walk away from the company.

Closing Thoughts

Everyone complains about how WWE hasn't been capable of creating main event wrestlers. They have a couple of guys that are talented enough to be elevated. Carlito happens to be one of the few guys that are qualified for a promotion.
