Slammiversary 2009

Slammiversary 2009 is upon us this weekend, and the event marks a very significant accomplishment for TNA as a company.

Slammiversary 2009

On June 19, 2002, TNA held its first ever event. Exactly 7 years later, and here we are. Slammiversary 2009 will double as an anniversary date for that very first event.

Throughout those 7 years, critics of TNA have been predicting that the company was going to go out of business at any moment. However, they still managed to find a way to continue.

The company has changed quite a bit over the years. The wrestling landscape has changed, and several big name players have switched over from WWE to TNA. Many of those big name players are being featured at Slammiversary 2009.

TNA has gone the distance this year to make the Slammiversary pay per view feel as special as possible.

Slammiversary 2009 Matches

The following matches are officially being advertised for Slammiversary 2009.

  • Daniels vs Shane Douglas
  • Raven & Daffney vs Abyss & Taylor Wilde
  • Matt Morgan vs Sting
  • Angelina Love vs Tara
  • Suicide vs Jay Lethal vs Consequences Creed vs Alex Shelley vs Chris Sabin
  • Team 3D vs Beer Money Inc
  • Mick Foley vs Jeff Jarrett vs Kurt Angle vs AJ Styles vs Samoa Joe

Slammiversary 2009 Preview

Interesting storyline going on between Daniels and Shane Douglas. The former ECW Heavyweight Champion is basically challenging Daniels for his spot on the TNA roster. Don't expect him to lose that spot, though.

The storyline has been good, but you won't need any of that to enjoy the Monster's Ball tag team match between Raven & Daffney against Abyss & Taylor Wilde. Don't be too surprised to see a swerve here.

If Matt Morgan can beat Sting, he gets a spot with the Main Event Mafia. The group does need some new blood, and this storyline has made Matt Morgan interesting again. Personally, I think he needs to win this match.

Tara (formerly known as Victoria in WWE) gets a title shot against Angelina Love. Both are superb in-ring performers, so this should be an excellent match. I think TNA should create some buzz by putting the title on Tara.

There's going to be a King of the Mountain match for the TNA X Division Championship featuring Alex Shelley, Chris Sabin, Suicide, Consequences Creed, and Jay Lethal. You can expect these guys to show up the main event guys in this match.

The on-screen relationship between Team 3D and Beer Money Inc has changed quite a bit since the last time they fought over the belts. That should make for a good match between the two teams.

The main event is going to feature Kurt Angle, Mick Foley, Jeff Jarrett, Samoa Joe, and AJ Styles competing for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship in a King of the Mountain match.

Oddly enough, I'm actually hoping that Mick Foley somehow retains the belt here. He's highly entertaining right now in the role. We can wait to see a title change as long as he continues being entertaining.

The five guys in the match all "get it". They'll put on an entertaining matchup for sure. Plus, their competitiveness will ensure that they will try to outdo the X Division guys from earlier in the night.

Closing Thoughts

From top to bottom, Slammiversary 2009 should be a highly entertaining pay per view. The matches have been booked with enough back stories behind them to make you anticipate them.
