Wrestling fans were shocked at No Way Out when Edge walked away as the World Heavyweight Champion.
Edge Wins World Title
For those of you that didn't get the privilege of watching No Way Out, Edge walked away with the World Heavyweight Championship.
No, that's not a typo.
At the start of the pay per view, Edge was the WWE Heavyweight Champion.
In the opening match of the pay per view, he defended the title in an Elimination Chamber match, but was the first person eliminated in the match.
Staying true to his character, Edge attacked Kofi Kingston during the Raw Elimination Chamber and replaced him in the match.
He ended up pinning Rey Mysterio to capture the World Heavyweight Championship.
Edge to Raw
With Edge winning the most important championship on the Raw brand, everyone is assuming that he's going to be headed back to Raw.
That might not necessarily be the case.
First of all, the Raw brand already has three of the top heel performers in the entire industry right now in Chris Jericho, Randy Orton, and the rejuvenated JBL.
Adding Edge to that mix would seem like overkill unless WWE is planning on turning one of those guys into a babyface.
Considering how great they are at their current roles, it would be a huge mistake to make the turn now.
Another bad thing about moving Edge over to Raw would be the fact that he'd have to leave Vickie Guerrero behind.
She can't be the general manager on Raw, and it would be a shame to have her split from Edge right now.
Chances are, Edge will be sticking on Smackdown for now.
Surprise, Surprise
With Wrestlemania 25 coming around pretty soon, WWE has done a tremendous job of keeping fans on their toes with some well timed surprises.
This is the time of year where every single wrestling fan puts on their fantasy booker caps and try to piece together their own version of Wrestlemania.
By having Edge shockingly win the World Heavyweight Championship, they've managed to throw a wrench into the proposed plans that fans have already come up with.
Closing Thoughts
Kudos to WWE for producing one of the more surprising moments. Stuff like this is needed to keep fans on the edge of their seats. |
