Which Brand For Christian Cage?

by Jack Windham
November 26, 2008

Christian Cage hasn't even signed with WWE yet, and there's already a backstage battle between the brands for him.

Which Brand For Christian Cage?

For those of you that have been living in a cage over the last few weeks, Christian Cage is set to become the hottest free agent in professional wrestling.

In a few weeks, he will decide whether to stay in TNA or to return to WWE.

Since he's not letting anyone know what his plans are, that has left the internet wrestling community guessing.

It's also left the actual wrestling industry guessing as well.

TNA has already scripted a storyline to where they're covered in case Christian Cage leaves. They're also covered in case he decides to return.

WWE, on the other hand, has already started debating which brand Christian Cage needs to be on if he does return.

Extremely Ruled Out

For those of you that still have ECW as a potential option for Christian Cage, go ahead and do yourself a favor by ruling that out.

When you bring in a star of the caliber of Christian Cage, you don't put him on the brand that isn't watched by the majority of the WWE Universe.

Christian Cage brings with him some hype and momentum. WWE will surely want to capitalize on that by putting him on one of the two main brands.

Christian Cage to Smackdown

Right now, two of the more powerful people in the entire company is campaigning to bring Christian Cage to Smackdown.

Michael Hayes, the lead writer of Smackdown, and Edge, the current WWE Heavyweight Champion, are both trying to convince management to put Captain Charisma on their brand.

If these two guys can come up with a great storyline involving Christian Cage and Edge together, then that might be enough to convince management to make the move happen.

Christian Cage to Raw

Raw head writer, Brian Gewirtz, has been heavily campaigning to bring Christian Cage to his brand.

He has thoroughly enjoyed with Christian Cage in the past. Can't blame him since Christian Cage possesses one of the most creative minds in the wrestling business.

Despite the shift in roster to Smackdown, Raw still remains the flagship brand for WWE.

It's still the brand where the major storylines and major guest appearances take place.

With that in mind, Raw might have a slight advantage over Smackdown in the hunt for Christian Cage.

Closing Thoughts

Personally, I think this decision will come down to how good of a storyline for Christian Cage that Smackdown can provide.
