Ted DiBiase in Marines 2

by Jack Windham

Ted DiBiase has been pegged to replace John Cena and star in the upcoming sequel to The Marines.

Ted DiBiase in Marines 2

On television, wrestling fans saw Randy Orton knocking out Ted DiBiase with a severe kick to the head.

They even went as far as to have him carried out on a stretcher to emphasize how injured Ted DiBiase was from that kick.

Reports surfaced that Ted DiBiase had recently gotten married, so wrestling fans assumed that he was written off of television to tend to that.

However, it turns out that he's going to be taking time off to do something else. He's going to be starring in the sequel to The Marines movie.

The movie will skip the theaters and head straight to DVD. There's a chance that it could be released sometime in 2009.

Twice the Price

While most people will simply read this bit of news and move on, there's a lot more between the lines that you think.

By being chosen to star in this movie, Ted DiBiase is showing that he's got a lot of value to the company.

He already had value to the company because of his look, mic skills, and famous last name.

The chances of him becoming a future world champion was already great.

However, the fact that WWE chose to have him star in a movie shows you just how much they think of the guy.

The company feels that he has more value than simply being a professional wrestler.

If Ted DiBiase can do well in this movie, then he's basically secured his job for the next decade.

Promotional Problems

A lot of wrestling fans criticized John Cena for downplaying the rapper gimmick and adopting the marines gimmick.

The reason why he did that was because management wanted to promote the movie.

It will be interesting to see how WWE chooses to have Ted DiBiase promoting the movie when it comes out.

It's a bit trickier to promote things when the person involved is a heel. Ted DiBiase would have to keep his heel mannerisms despite trying to get approval from the audience.

The company could choose to turn him into a babyface before the movie comes out, though.

One of the reasons why WWE turned Mr Kennedy into a babyface was to make it easier for them to promote his movie, Behind Enemy Lines: Colombia.

Closing Thoughts

As a big fan of this guy, I'm really happy to see that he's getting more and more opportunities from WWE.
