Lena Yada Released
by Jack Windham
November 10, 2008
About a year after she was signed by the company, Lena Yada has been released by WWE.
Lena Yada Released
In 2005, Lena Yada auditioned for the WWE Diva Search competition. She made it into the top 30, but she was eventually eliminated.
In 2007, she auditioned again. She did better this time around, finishing 3rd overall in the competition.
Since WWE wanted an Asian female wrestler to add to their portfolio, the company decided to give Lena Yada a contract anyways.
Lena Yada spent much of her time in WWE as a backstage interviewer. Off camera, she did a lot of charity work for the company.
On Monday, the company included Lena Yada in the wave of releases as they worked to cut down their operational costs.
On the Job Training
WWE was fully aware that Lena Yada was not prepared to wrestle when they signed her to a contract.
Instead, the company signed her, had her make a few television appearances, and sent her down to FCW and UPW to train for an in-ring career.
Unfortunately for Lena Yada, though, she was released by the company after only having a matches on her resume.
Making Room
The popular belief was that Lena Yada was hired because WWE wanted an asian female on the shows.
Since her wrestling training wasn't going as fast as the company had wanted, Lena Yada wasn't necessarily someone that was key to WWE.
With the rumored return of Gail Kim, an asian female that has years of experience as a wrestler, the end was near for Lena Yada.
After WWE
With her release from WWE, it looks like Lena Yada's wrestling career may have come to a close.
TNA has a female division, but the company requires more wrestling experience than Lena Yada possesses.
Since she wasn't able to show much character, it's difficult to see TNA hiring her as a manager either.
Unless she does some appearances for an independent wrestling show, then it looks like Lena Yada is done with wrestling.
Closing Thoughts
Lena Yada's release isn't going to shock a lot of people. She was around just long enough for us to remember her and miss her. |
