Jim Cornette has compared Robert Roode and James Storm to Tully Blanchard and Arn Anderson.
Cornette Compares
In a recent interview with the Daily Star, Jim Cornette has thrown out the best compliment to Robert Roode and James Storm than they've ever received.
The legendary heel manager compared Beer Money to the legendary tag team of Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard.
Jim Cornette has as much credibility as anyone on this matter since he was actually around quite a bit to see Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard doing their magic in the NWA rings.
Considering how Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard are considered among the best tag teams of all time, that's quite the praise.
Lightning Strikes
I've always been a man that has been able to admit to making a mistake.
I made a huge mistake in thinking that Robert Roode and James Storm would flounder as a tag team.
At the time of their formation, I was very much against the move because I wanted to see both wrestlers continue to move up the singles ladder.
I really thought that TNA was taking the easy way out by putting these two guys together.
I was very wrong, and TNA was able to catch lightning in a bottle with Beer Money.
They ended up working together much better than I expected, and they're actually getting over with the audience.
Old School Revival
The biggest reason why James Storm and Robert Roode deserve this praise is that they're both focused on bringing back old school tag team wrestling.
Robert Roode has been accurately compared to old school heels like Ted DiBiase and Tully Blanchard.
He doesn't try to play the cool heel. He doesn't try to make the audience like him. He just goes out there and draws jeers.
James Storm doesn't possess Arn Anderson's mic skills, but then again, how many wrestlers in the last 25 years come close?
However, what James Storm does emulate in Arn Anderson is his ability to mesh with other wrestlers to form a solid tag team.
While he teamed with "Wildcat" Chris Harris, they were considered to be one of the best tag teams in the world.
Now that he's working with Robert Roode, they're meshing really well as a tag team.
Closing Thoughts
I went from not wanting to see these two guys together to wanting to see them together for a bit longer before they get their eventual singles pushes. |
