The ominous headline that graced the pages of WWE.com on Sunday morning sent millions of wrestling fans into a state of panic.

On Sunday morning, WWE posted what appeared to be an official news posting on their website stating that Jeff Hardy had been found unconscious in a hotel.

It only took a few minutes for those rumors to spread throughout the internet wrestling community.

And when it spread, it spread like wildfire.

You see, Jeff Hardy isn't your typical wrestler.

Borderline

With Jeff Hardy's well documented history with drugs, it was very risky for the company to make a storyline out of finding him unconcious in a hotel.

Throughout the last decade or so, there have been several true stories where wrestlers have been found dead inside of a hotel.

Jeff Hardy has such a rabidly loyal fanbase that it's not hard to imagine a few of them breaking out into tears this morning.

To some, the publicity stunt was borderline tasteless.

To others, however, this stunt was exactly what the company was hoping for.

They wanted to create a buzz, and they accomplished that at the Survivor Series.

Edge vs Hardy

It appears that the events that were portrayed over the weekend are going to lead into a title feud between Edge and Jeff Hardy.

Edge was the wrestler that was revealed in the storyline to have injured Jeff Hardy at the hotel.

Jeff Hardy made an appearance at the Survivor Series, seeking to gain revenge on Edge.

However, he wasn't successful, and Edge ended up surprising everyone by regaining the WWE Heavyweight Championship.

That could end up working better for Jeff Hardy as his feud with Edge will now be over the title.

After a couple of failed attempts at wresting the title away from Triple H, it will be interesting to see if Jeff Hardy can finally accomplish his dream against Edge.

WWE might be setting up their big title match for the Royal Rumble (or sooner), but I personally think that they should set it up for Wrestlemania.

Closing Thoughts

What started out as a potentially scary story ended up becoming a blessing in disguise for Jeff Hardy fans.
