Goldust Returns to WWE

by Jack Windham
November 20, 2008

After making an appearance at the Cyber Sunday pay per view, Goldust has finally returned to WWE.

Goldust Returns to WWE

Earlier this week, Dustin Rhodes faxed in a signed contract that states that he will return to WWE as an in-ring performer.

The return marks his fifth time with the company. He's been jumping back and forth between WWE, WCW, and TNA.

In 2007, Dustin Rhodes had a very good tour of Japan (working in All Japan Pro Wrestling against the legendary Great Muta).

Some time after that, WWE had expressed interest in bringing him back, but he chose to go to TNA instead (and became Black Reign).

After a surprisingly good reaction from the audience at the Cyber Sunday pay per view, the company has decided to bring him back on board.

Big Fan

More than likely, Goldust will be utilized on the Raw brand since he has a very big fan in Brian Gewirtz, who happens to be the head writer for the brand.

Brian Gewirtz has wanted to bring Goldust back for quite some time now, thinking that he can capitalize on the comedic aspect that the character brings.

His desire to bring Goldust back was helped greatly by the amount of votes that the former WWE Intercontinental Champion received from the Cyber Sunday pay per view.

Brotherly Love

Initially, Goldust will be used in a comedic role, but if that goes well, then there's a chance that he could end up being Dustin Rhodes again.

The company has a potentially interesting storyline on their hands because Cody Rhodes (his little brother) is now on the Raw brand.

WWE could easily set up a future storyline by doing a backstage segment where Cody Rhodes bumps into Goldust.

Perhaps they can even do a storyline where Goldust finally snaps after seeing Randy Orton abuse his younger brother after a few months.

That, in turn, would set up a babyface turn for the younger Rhodes.

If WWE wanted to make things even bigger, then they can bring Dusty Rhodes back from developmental to play an on air character.

Perhaps he could even manage the tag team of Cody Rhodes and Dustin Rhodes.

What better way to capitalize on Dusty Rhodes' name than by having him actually involved with both of his sons?

Closing Thoughts

I'm not expecting a lot of big things from Goldust, but the potential is there to make this signing a lot bigger than it really is.
