After knocking out the legendary Randy Couture, Brock Lesnar is now sitting on top as the UFC Heavyweight Champion.
Lesnar Wins UFC Title
When you look at Brock Lesnar's resume, you'll see that he's been an NCAA Division 1 amateur wrestling champion and a WWE Heavyweight Champion.
Well, now you can add UFC Heavyweight Champion to his already impressive resume.
On Saturday night, Brock Lesnar was able to defeat UFC Hall of Famer Randy Courture in the second round to capture the sport's coveted heavyweight championship.
Approximately two minutes after the second round started, Brock Lesnar was able to catch Randy Couture with a very good shot to the head.
Afterwards, he quickly pummeled the three time UFC Heavyweight Championship on the ground.
The referee stopped the fight and a new champion was crowned.
Pro Wrestling's Champion
Brock Lesnar may not want the role, but by capturing the UFC Heavyweight Championship, he has now elevated professional wrestling.
He is basically pro wrestling's champion.
Professional wrestling gets ridiculed by non-wrestling fans for being a fake sport.
The majority of wrestling fans already know that it's a fake sport. It's been years since the wrestling industry has gone above and beyond to "deceive" the fans.
Nonetheless, the stigma is there, and it hovers over the wrestling industry.
Being a former wrestler means that Brock Lesnar is a heel in the eyes of many MMA fans. He was jeered heavily by the crowd in Las Vegas (then again, he was facing one of the most popular fighters of all time).
Since the outcome is scripted, then everything else about the wrestling business is fake as well.
With Brock Lesnar finding success in the world of real fighting, the entire wrestling industry can claim a victory.
No, it doesn't mean that wrestling is real now.
This win basically shows the world that professional wrestlers are athletes as well.
It takes athletic ability to do what professional wrestlers do on a nightly basis.
The pain and dedication that is involved in professional wrestling is just as real as they are in real sports.
Closing Thoughts
Love him or hate him, Brock Lesnar winning the UFC title is a good thing for professional wrestling. |
