Brock Lesnar's Shame
by Jack Windham
November 14, 2008
The man who was once the next big thing in professional wrestling is now acting like he's ashamed of his past.
Next Big Thing
There was a time when Brock Lesnar was viewed as the next big thing in profiessional wrestling.
In fact, the Next Big Thing was his official nickname in WWE.
With his size, athleticism, and amateur wrestling background, Brock Lesnar was basically everything that Vince McMahon dreamed of.
Had he remained in WWE, Vince McMahon would have easily built the company around him for the next decade or so.
However, Brock Lesnar's heart was not in WWE. He wanted a different challenge in life, and he walked away from a lucrative career.
Next Big Thing Again
When Brock Lesnar left WWE, he tried his hands at a career in professional football.
He failed to catch on with an NFL team, so he turned towards mixed martial arts.
Brock Lesnar is not undefeated in MMA, but nontheless, he has so much hype behind him that he's starting to become the marketing machine for UFC.
In some people's eyes, Brock Lesnar is the next big thing in UFC.
Shameful Past
Unlike a lot of other people, I personally don't have a problem with Brock Lesnar walking away from the wrestling business.
If he didn't like what he was doing, then by all means, he needs to walk away.
I'd rather see guys in the wrestling ring that are passionate about the business, even if they're not as naturally gifted as Brock Lesnar was.
So, I'll never hold it against him to walk away from WWE.
What I don't like about what he is doing right now is how he's talking down on the wrestling business.
I understand that there's a stigma that is attached to every single professional wrestler.
I also understand that it's a smart business decision to distance yourself from the industry (much like the Rock did).
However, I don't agree with Brock Lesnar being so vocal about it.
The Rock walked away and has barely looked back. However, he hasn't been as vocal about Brock Lesnar when it comes to being ashamed of his past.
Closing Thoughts
It's fine to walk away. However, it's not really all that polite to turn around and bad mouth something as you're walking away. |
