Ric Flair to TNA

by Jack Windham
September 26, 2008

When you're a legendary figure like Ric Flair and can still draw attention, everyone is going to want you. TNA has joined that list.

Ric Flair to TNA

The thought of Ric Flair going to TNA is going to invoke quite a bit of emotion in wrestling fans.

Some will turn on the former NWA World Heavyweight Champion because they're upset that he's going "to the competition".

Others will use it as an opportunity to bash TNA by blindly believing that all they do is sign former WWE wrestlers.

Then, there's the group of wrestling fans who are going to warn Ric Flair that he shouldn't ruin his legacy.

I've been a Ric Flair fanatic for over 2 decades now. If he wants to go to TNA, then more power to him.

Waiting Period

TNA has contacted Ric Flair to gauge in his interest in coming to the promotion.

The company would love to bring in a presence such as Ric Flair.

Unfortunately for them, though, that's not going to be happening for approximately a year.

When Ric Flair asked for his release from WWE, the company made him sign an agreement to not appear in TNA for at least a year.

WWE did not want Ric Flair to ride his Wrestlemania retirement momentum into TNA and help them gain new fans.

Money Talks

Once Ric Flair's one year clause with WWE ends, it wouldn't be entirely out of the question to see him in TNA.

Money is a huge motivator for everyone, and Ric Flair is no exception.

In fact, he quit WWE because he wanted to pursue other financial opportunities in the wrestling industry.

TNA can throw out a contract that is financially suitable. They can also throw out a contract where the schedule is extremely favorable.

Special Attraction

If Ric Flair does end up in TNA, hopefully, he's a special attraction as opposed to a regular wrestler.

We don't need to see Ric Flair wrestling every week on TNA iMPACT! The company doesn't even need that much from him to pick up new fans.

He should be used once or twice a year in a special wrestling match on pay per view.

The rest of the time, he can be used as an on screen personality.

Imagine Ric Flair and Jim Cornette playing the roles of conflicting directors of authority.

Closing Thoughts

We'll revisit this bit of news in a year because TNA is obviously going to make contact again.
