Rey Mysterio's Replacements

With Smackdown ratings dropping severely, it looks like WWE is grooming Carlito and Primo Colon as Rey Mysterio's replacements.
Ratings Drop
The overall ratings for Smackdown may seem to have survived the loss of Rey Mysterio.
However, the ratings for the Hispanic demographics has dropped pretty badly.
The obvious reason for that is the departure of Rey Mysterio from the Smackdown brand.
Ever since the loss of Eddie Guerrero to an untimely death, Smackdown has been able to maintain a large Hispanic fan base due to the popularity of the masked superstar.
WWE knew that the possibility of a ratings drop was there when they were making the decision to swap Rey Mysterio to the Raw brand.
Rey Mysterio's Replacements
With the way things are going on Smackdown right now, it looks like WWE could be grooming Carlito and Primo Colon as Rey Mysterio's replacements.
Management made a snap decision to swap Primo Colon over from the Raw brand to Smackdown.
They also made the decision to bring Carlito off the sidelines and turned him into a babyface to team with his little brother.
After just a few matches together, the sons of the legendary Carlos Colon were able to capture the WWE Tag Team Championship.
Realistic Results
There's probably not a single person in the entire WWE that believes that Carlito and Primo Colon are going to completely replace Rey Mysterio.
Rey Mysterio is simply too popular of an international stars for the Carribean brothers to compete with.
Of course, they don't necessarily have to reach Rey Mysterio's level. As long as they can attract more Hispanic viewers, management will be pleased.
Pleasing Carlito
While this is still a long way from being a main event wrestler, the move should enable WWE to please Carlito for a few months.
The popular superstar had been disgruntled with the company for not using him properly over the last several months.
By pushing him with his little brother, it's a step in the right direction in getting him to stay with the company.
Closing Thoughts
As a big fan of Carlito, I'm hoping WWE keeps his push going.
Besides, I'm tired of writing about him being disgruntled every few months and threatening to leave. |
