Stevie Richards Released

After years of dodging a release by WWE, Stevie Richards was finally let go from his contract on Friday.
Stevie Richards Released
Every year, WWE goes through a period of time where several wrestlers are released from their contracts.
It's basically like a house cleaning for the company.
And every single time that we come upon that house cleaning, Stevie Richards automatically becomes a candidate to be released.
However, time after time, Stevie Richards has managed to avoid being released by WWE.
On Friday, though, he wasn't as lucky.
Stevie Richards, along with 4 other wrestlers, was released by WWE.
What's Next?
Stevie Richards is quite a likeable wrestler.
Wrestling fans have had a bond with him since his days in the original ECW.
He not only provided some laughs there, but he also wrestled in some pretty hardcore matches.
However, being likeable and being marketable are two entirely separate things.
He has some name value, but his stock isn't high enough for TNA to bring him in, especially with the roster being stacked right now.
More than likely, Stevie Richards will end up headlining shows on the independent wrestling circuit.
Other Releases
Stevie Richards was not the only person that lost his job on Friday.
WWE confirmed that they have also released Colin Delaney, the Highlanders, and Cherry.
Colin Delaney signed a 3 year deal with WWE, but he lost all of his momentum when he had an abrupt heel turn that went nowhere.
The tag team division isn't a priority, so the Highlanders were of little use to WWE.
TNA focuses a bit more on tag team wrestling than WWE, so there's a little chance the Highlanders could be signed for depth.
Cherry is an underrated in-ring performer who was actually perfectly suited in her role as manager for Deuce & Domino.
With TNA looking to add more depth to their Knockouts division, Cherry is a candidate to sign there.
Closing Thoughts
It's never a pleasant thing when people lose their jobs. |
