In a brilliant attempt to create buzz for his produce, Vince McMahon announced on Monday Night Raw last night that he was giving away $1 million dollars.
WWE Million Dollars
At the end of Monday Night Raw last night, Vince McMahon made a major announcement about the upcoming draft lottery.
Then, he made a bigger announcement that he will be giving away a million dollars to fans.
Obviously, that created a huge buzz within the internet wrestling community, which is exactly what Vince McMahon was hoping to do.
Not So Fast
Before you start assuming that WWE is going to be creating a brand new millionaire each week, you might want to listen a bit more closely.
Vince McMahon said that he's giving away a SUM of $1 million. In fact, the website itself confirms that as well.
That means that there's going to be multiple winners winning a grand total of $1 million.
There's a chance that it might not be completely cash payments either. WWE could choose to give away event tickets, merchandises, and other things to equal out the $1 million.
Doesn't really matter what the prize is. WWE has already found success with this thing thanks to the buzz that has been created.
That million dollars means very little if you factor in how many more viewers WWE can draw in.
They'll be able to recoup that money rather easily.
Business Buzz
The simple point of this entire sweepstakes is to get fans to tune into Monday Night Raw each week.
For the past few years, ratings have been declining at a steady pace.
There's fans that will defend the situation by pointing out that WWE is still making a ton of money on live events and pay per view buys.
However, you'll never get a job with WWE if you have that mentality. Just try to use that excuse with Vince McMahon.
He demands more than that from his employees and his products.
Vince McMahon knows that the ratings are down, so he's going to try to figure out a way to bring it back up.
This contest was just the start of things.
Closing Thoughts
This is a win-win situation for everyone involved.
WWE gets a boost in ratings, which hopefully will cause a boost in pay per view buyrates, event tickets, and merchandise sales.
The fans get an opportunity to win some money and prizes. |
