Bad news for Smackdown fans. Rey Mysterio's return date has been pushed back a bit.
Rey Mysterio's Return Date
Back in February, WWE announced that Rey Mysterio had suffered a serious injury while working a tour down in South America.
Despite the injury, Rey Mysterio still managed to work a match at No Way Out and on an episode of Smackdown.
Rey Mysterio was scheduled to return from the injury in June, but it has now been revealed that he won't be returning that soon.
One Night Stand
The original plan was to have Rey Mysterio return in time to work the One Night Stand pay per view.
This year, the event is being held in San Diego, CA, which is Rey Mysterio's home town.
In the past, WWE always made sure to have Rey Mysterio on the San Diego shows regardless of which brand was touring.
He's a huge draw around the world, but he's especially huge in San Diego.
Controversial Choices
There's been plenty of controversy surrounding Rey Mysterio since the injury first happened.
First of all, a lot of people questioned whether it was a good idea for Rey Mysterio to worked his title match against Edge at No Way Out.
The show would have been fine had Rey Mysterio not worked because it was stacked with two Elimination Chamber matches already.
To make matters worse, he worked a match a couple of days later against Chavo Guerrero on an episode of Smackdown.
Many viewed that match as completely unnecessary.
Another source of controversy was Rey Mysterio's choices regarding the surgery.
Rather than going to the renowned Dr James Andrew, Rey Mysterio opted to go with a doctor in San Diego who wasn't as respected as the WWE's usual doctor.
Dr James Andrew is the WWE's "go to guy" when it comes to their big stars. Triple H, Bobby Lashley, and the other big stars get sent to him whenever they're injured.
The doctor that Rey Mysterio chose has a long history of lawsuits against him from former patients.
There's also controversy in the fact that Rey Mysterio chose to do a surgical procedure that would have allowed him to return in 6 weeks as opposed to 6 months.
The procedure didn't work out as planned, and it caused further complications.
Closing Thoughts
Everyone has to think long term with this. Rey Mysterio needs to stay out as long as he needs to come back completely healthy. |
