Jamie Noble to ECW

by Jack Windham
April 3, 2008

Sending Jamie Noble to ECW would give the brand the player/coach type that they need.

The Mentor

ECW is essentially a developmental territoriy for WWE right now. It's the place where younger wrestlers go to develop their skills.

That's why the need for a veteran in-ring performer who can also teach is important.

Jamie Noble fits that bill almost perfectly.

The former ROH (Ring of Honor) World Heavyweight Champion has been in the wrestling business for approximately 13 years now.

While he will never be a main event wrestler in WWE, he still knows the business pretty well.

His mic skills and ring skills are both quite underrated.

Jamie Noble is actually one of the few wrestlers that can get over with the audience while actually losing matches and being humiliated in backstage segments.

Secondary Star

In the eyes of those that appreciate fundamental wrestling skills, Jamie Noble does have enough credibility to be the ECW Heavyweight Champion.

However, he's more suited for a secondary role. Jamie Noble won't be the guy that they build the ECW brand around, but he can be the secondary star.

The criticism on ECW over the past year has been the fact that they didn't bother building a secondary babyface star behind CM Punk.

With CM Punk expected to leave the brand soon, management could possibly look into bringing someone in to become the star of ECW.

Jamie Noble could then become the temporary secondary star while they groom Kofi Kingston as the 3rd star.

Replacing Rhodes

Earlier this week, Dusty Rhodes left the ECW writing team. He wasn't the head writer, but he did contribute a lot of ideas to the show.

ECW does not have a true lead writer at the moment, so there's a good possibility that they would definitely rely on a veteran wrestler.

Jamie Noble could be asked to provide input into the creative process for ECW. Management had enough faith in him to allow him to book the cruiserweight division for a while.

Since ECW is not a priority for management, Jamie Noble could use the opportunity to show them what he can do in a creative position.

By being a mentor for the younger wrestlers and by providing a lot of the creative work for the brand, Jamie Noble would definitely increase his job security.

Closing Thoughts

It's not a blockbuster move by any means, but it is a move that can help out ECW more than most fans realize.
