Chris Jericho to Smackdown
by Jack Windham
April 7, 2008
With Chris Jericho losing quite a bit of momentum since he made his return, it may be time to send him over to Smackdown to rejuvenate him...and the brand.
Lackluster Return
The hype for Chris Jericho's return was tremendous. It had the entire wrestling community buzzing.
The return itself, though, hasn't been nearly as exciting as everyone (including Chris Jericho) had hoped.
Of course, not all of that is his fault. A lot of it has to do with what he has had to work with since returning.
First, he was involved in a title feud with WWE Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton, but there was no chemistry there.
Then, he was moved into a feud with JBL, who was also making his return. However, despite both being solid mic workers, the feud fizzled.
Nothing just seemed to click for Chris Jericho, which is strange because he's still good on the mic and in the ring.
New Rivalries
On Smackdown, there's a handful of fresh feuds for Chris Jericho to be involved in.
Wrestling fans received a brief glimpses of a potential feud between Chris Jericho and MVP. That's a feud that could rejuvenate Chris Jericho and elevate MVP to even higher levels.
Now that Chavo Guerrero has been elevated from the cruiserweight division, he's another potential foe for Chris Jericho.
The two should be able to work a pretty good program since they're quite familiar with one another, having worked together in WCW.
If Chris Jericho were to turn heel again, then he has possible feuds waiting for him in Matt Hardy and Rey Mysterio.
Championship Aspiration
Since Monday Night Raw is the main show, it's a bit more difficult to win the WWE Heavyweight Championship. Whoever owns that belt has the added burden of carrying the entire company.
A lot of people won't want to admit it, but the World Heavyweight Championship is a bit easier to win. There's less pressure on that champion.
Chris Jericho has enough credibility and momentum (even though it has been lowered since his return) right now to be the World Heavyweight Champion.
If you don't believe me, then explain how the Great Khali was able to hold the belt in 2007.
Closing Thoughts
WWE likes having wrestlers making their returns on Monday Night Raw so they can increase that show's ratings.
Now that the luster of his return has vanished, Chris Jericho needs to be moved to a new environment.
He needs to be moved to Smackdown. |
