WWE Kids Project About to Launch

WWE is launching a new project called WWE Kids in an attempt to increase their fan base.
New Magazine
Starting April 15, 2008, WWE will be releasing a bi-monthly magazine called WWE Kids.
The magazine will still focus on WWE storylines and characters, but it will be simplified a bit for the kids.
Considering the fan base, though, you can expect WWE to leave out a few storylines (such as the incest storyline between Paul Burchill and Katie Lea Burchill).
Stone Cold Steve Austin might not be shown in the magazine drinking beer or giving the middle finger either.
Of course, it'd be nice if WWE prevented the kids from having to see Big Daddy V without his shirt on.
As an adult, I'd like to be kept from seeing that as well.
6-14
There are reports out there that state that WWE is targeting the kids who are in between 6 years of age and 14 years of age.
Well, this isn't anything new.
WWE has always been targeting that demographics. Who do you think Hulk Hogan was being marketed to?
Back when the competition was fierce between the NWA/WCW and WWE, older fans who preferred realistic wrestling went with WCW.
Vince McMahon has always leaned towards cartoon like characters and characters that were larger than life.
WWE did abandon the younger audience a bit when they ventured into the Attitude Era. The controversial aspect of wrestling at the time was more suited towards teenagers and adults.
New Pushes
With more focus being paid to younger fans, WWE will start pushing wrestlers that fit that demographics.
This means that Rey Mysterio will be guaranteed of a push as long as he can remain healthy.
CM Punk has already been chosen as one of the characters that will be marketed towards the kids.
WWE will have a tough decision to make with Jeff Hardy when he comes back. It's a bit risky to market him towards kids when he's been busted a couple of times for drugs.
A feared monster like Kane may have his character changed up a bit to become more kid friendly.
New characters will also be brought in with gimmicks that are geared towards the younger audience.
Closing Thoughts
Kids will be the target, but that doesn't mean that us adults won't notice the change in philosophy. |
