Kane Wins ECW Heavyweight Championship

In a rather interesting move, WWE has decided to put the ECW Heavyweight Championship around the waist of veteran wrestler Kane.
Champion Again
It's hard to believe that in over a decade with the company, Kane has only held the WWE Heavyweight Championship once.
That title reign was back in the summer of 1998, which was almost a complete decade ago.
The ECW Heavyweight Championship hasn't been considered a "world title" since around the same time that Kane held the WWE Heavyweight Championship.
Nonetheless, it's a treat for Kane fans to see the Big Red Machine with singles gold again.
Short Term
Kane's ECW Heavyweight Championship reign is already guaranteed to be longer than his WWE Heavyweight Championship reign.
Just by the sole fact that ECW on Sci Fi won't be happening until Tuesday night guarantees that Kane will outlast his previous record of 24 hours (he lost the WWE Heavyweight Championship on the Monday Night Raw immediately following the pay per view).
Then again, if management really wanted to maintain that dubious record, then they can have him dropping the belt tomorrow night on Monday Night Raw.
Wrestlers from all three brands have been notified that their services will be required on tonight's Monday Night Raw in Orlando, Florida.
As popular as Kane is with fans, he's not a guy that management is going to build the ECW brand around. He'll hold the belt until management figures out who they want the belt on long term.
Punishment
Earlier in the week, it was reported that Chavo Guerrero was one of the wrestlers who were backstage at TNA iMPACT!
Chavo Guerrero was there visiting old friends and his uncle Hector Guerrero. Unlike Robbie McAllister, he didn't appear on camera.
WWE had previously instructed their wrestlers to avoid any interaction with TNA wrestlers.
When word broke out that Chavo Guerrero was at the iMPACT! Zone, many had speculated that he was going to be punished at Wrestlemania 24.
The fact that he lost the match and the title to Kane in less than 10 seconds solidifies that rumor.
Then again, the quick loss could have just been WWE wanting to establish some momentum for Kane. Plus, they might have been running short on time, especially with 10 matches booked for Wrestlemania 24.
Closing Thoughts
While it's more likely that he'll be a transition champion, it would really be nice if management were to let Kane hold the ECW Heavyweight Championship for a couple of months. |
