Downplaying the Diva Search

by Jack Windham
March 24, 2008

After seeing Eve Torres for a few weeks now, it's quite obvious that WWE is downplaying the diva search competition.

Out of Wrestlemania

The thing that really sparked this article was the fact that Eve Torres has not been officially announced as being involved in Wrestlemania 24.

There's still a good chance that she will be at the show. She might even get to do a backstage interview or something.

However, Eve Torres is not being promoted whatsoever for the biggest wrestling event of the year.

If WWE really wanted Eve Torres to be a part of Wrestlemania, they could have easily thrown her into the BunnyMania match.

The match doesn't involve the WWE Women's Championship and is basically the eye candy portion of the show.

WWE could have thrown a couple of more divas into the match if they wanted to. With diva matches, an 8 woman tag team match would have been the same as a regular tag team match.

Not Wrestling

It's not a surprise that Eve Torries isn't wrestling at Wrestlemania. She doesn't even get to wrestle on Smackdown.

Fortunately, WWE realized that she's not quite ready to be doing any in-ring stuff, so they're keeping her away from things.

In the past, WWE would rush the divas into the ring in hopes of capitalizing on the momentum built up from the diva search competition.

It also isn't a good sign that the winner of the diva search competition is working on Smackdown instead of Monday Night Raw.

Lena Yada works on the ECW brand. She was a finalist for the diva search competition that Eve Torres won.

Internet Only

The first sign that fans had that the diva search competition wasn't as important as it was in the past was the fact that the event was shown on the internet as opposed to Monday Night Raw.

In the past, WWE would utilize about 15-20 minutes on Monday Night Raw to have the competition for the divas.

This year, everything but the finals was done through the WWE website.

That could explain why the reaction for Eve Torres has been luke warm. The audience simply isn't familiar with her because they didn't bother going on the internet to see the competition.

WWE doesn't seem all that intent on pushing Eve Torres as the next diva superstar.

Then again, all of that changes if she were to pose for Playboy magazine.

Closing Thoughts

A lot of pure wrestling fans were against the diva search competition anyways, so this can be viewed as a positive thing.
