CM Punk to Become the New WWE Star For Kids

by Jack Windham
March 18, 2008

WWE will be shifting their focus to CM Punk as the new star for the younger generation.

Absence

For the past few years, WWE has had two stars that they heavily promoted towards the younger audience.

On Monday Night Raw, that star was Jeff Hardy. On Smackdown, it was Rey Mysterio.

Those two guys were great for that role, and they became two of the most popular stars in the company.

Over the last few weeks, WWE has lost the services of both men.

Rey Mysterio will be out for a few months thanks to another injury. As you all know, Jeff Hardy has been suspended for violating the company's drug policy twice.

Substitute

Even when Rey Mysterio and Jeff Hardy return to action, the company is going to need another star to market to the kids.

Rey Mysterio has become so injury prone now that WWE just takes what they can get from him. After years of providing entertaining high paced wrestling, his body simply has become fragile.

As far as Jeff Hardy is concerned, when he returns, it's going to be difficult for WWE to market him to kids, especially knowing that they had to publicly announce that he was suspended for drugs.

So, a substitute role model is needed.

CM Punk

CM Punk may be as good of a substitute as WWE is going to find on their roster right now.

He's also a pretty decent role model as wel.

For those of you that don't already know, CM Punk's gimmick is the Straight Edge Superstar.

The gimmick is that of someone that doesn't drink, do drugs, or commit a lot of other sins.

Actually, it's not just a wrestling gimmick. It's his real life gimmick. He really does believe in that lifestyle.

With that in mind, he's the perfect candidate to promote to the younger audience.

It'll also be a boost to his career since he'll be marketed better. Plus, that means that he's definitely going to be leaving ECW to go to a bigger brand.

Monday Night Raw would seem like the choice for management to move CM Punk over since they won't be relying on Jeff Hardy any more.

Smackdown can still at least rely on Rey Mysterio when he returns.

Closing Thoughts

Hopefully, this means that CM Punk is in line for a huge push.
