Since WWE will not allow Alberto Del Rio to return to Mexico to drop the Mega Championship, AAA officials have decided to simply strip him of the belt and do a tournament to crown a new champion. The former world heavyweight championship really wanted to do the right thing and honor tradition, but his contract would not allow it. AAA does not have any backstage heat towards Del Rio because they understand the situation.

As of now, WWE is planning on filling their world heavyweight championship tournament with performers who really do not stand a chance of advancing.
