It was earlier reported that AJ Styles was under contract with New Japan until the end of the year, which sparked the rumors that he was signing with WWE to join the NXT roster. However, new reports have now surfaced that the former world heavyweight champion is no longer under contract with NJPW. He is simply working on a per date deal with the promotion and can leave when he wants.

A back injury forced AJ Styles to the sidelines for several weeks, but the former world heavyweight champion has decided that now is the time to return to the ring. Styles worked a match for New Japan this week. He is expected to head back to the United States soon to work a pay per view for ROH. AJ Styles won a fatal four way match this week, and he is now the top challenger for the belt. No word yet on when the match will take place, but it should do wonders for Lethal and his profile. Lethal is more than likely going to hold on to the belt.
