In a sign that TNA may be loosening up the purse strings again, reports have surfaced that the company had negotiations with AJ Styles about a potential return that would have seen the former world heavyweight champion return to the promotion in time for their debut on POP TV. The two sides were not able to reach an agreement in time. Plus, Styles currently has a favorable deal on the table from WWE.

Earlier in the month, Kenny Omega shocked New Japan fans when he turned on AJ Styles and effectively took over leadership of the Bullet Club stable. While some believe that was done because of his potential signing with WWE, the move was actually planned ahead of time. Management got the sense that Styles was going to be returning to the United States, so they wanted him to leave on a high note as a baby face with the fans.

A back injury forced AJ Styles to the sidelines for several weeks, but the former world heavyweight champion has decided that now is the time to return to the ring. Styles worked a match for New Japan this week. He is expected to head back to the United States soon to work a pay per view for ROH. However, when asked about why he turned down the offer to make a brief return and be inducted into the hall of fame, Styles stated that the decision had nothing with how he feels towards the company. He stated that the reason why he opted against it was because his home is now in ROH and New Japan.

While the former world heavyweight champion did not completely shut the door on the possibility down the line, he stated that he was not going to be making a return anytime soon because he has found a home in New Japan. The belief is that Styles is using this as leverage in future negotiations.
